August 31 ,1805 -August 27 ,1877 ) was a U.S. Representative fromMassachusetts .Born in
Boston, Massachusetts , Walley attended the common schools andPhillips Academy ,Andover, Massachusetts .He attendedYale College in 1822 and was graduated fromHarvard University in 1826.He studied law.He was admitted to the Suffolk bar in 1831 and practiced in Boston and Roxbury.He engaged in banking. Treasurer of the Vermont Central Railroad. Promoter and first treasurer of the Wisconsin Central Railroad.He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1836 and 1840-1846, serving as speaker 1844-1846. Corporate member of the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions 1848-1867.Walley was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress (
March 4 ,1853 -March 3 ,1855 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the Thirty-fourth Congress.He was an unsuccessful Whig candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in 1855.He served as president of the Revere National Bank.He died atNantasket Beach, Massachusetts , onAugust 27 ,1877 .He was interred in Mount Auburn Cemetery,Cambridge, Massachusetts .References
