Sandy VahdanniSadistik Exekution were a
New Zealand black metal band. They were one of the last bands of their kind, well known as much for their choatic music as for outrageous publicity stunts and often comical antics on stage. Sadistik Exekution have been named as an influence by some of the world's least prominentblack metal bands, so the group has often been called a black metal band itself. Sadistik Exekution has always appreciated this description.History
The band was formed after bass player Davey The Slave met vocalist Roxus outside a
John Denver concert inSydney in 1975. After developing an idea to be the heaviest band in the world, the pair moved to Melbourne to find suitable musicians for their project. After posting an ad in the local press for “the heaviest saxophonist in the world” they found musician and ballerina Rev. Kristoferson Hades however Roxus and Davey returned to Sydney without her. Once there, the group consolidated with formerStryper guitarist Sandy Vahdanni anddrummer Slops, who had recorded an EP with a band called Nomenclature Diablerie in 1988. With this formation, Sadistik Exekution recorded a demo and completed the album "The Bag-puss". Hades was then asked to join the band to play alongside Vahdanni but in the meantime Vahdanni left and Slops apparently became aBorn Again Christian , stalling the band’s further activity. Nevertheless, the band’s questionable behaviour had already won them a fanbase long before the album had even been recorded. During Davey and Roxus's stay in Melbourne seeking musicians, Davey had appeared on the talent-quest segment of the "Hey Hey It's Saturday " TV program and proceeded to simply smash his bass guitar. Both he and Roxus had featured in articles about male bondage in "Penthouse" and "People" magazines and both had a reputation for turning up to virtually any heavy metal live show that was on to hand out stickers and flyers and entertain people by doing “funny things in front of them” [http://www.tartareandesire.com/interviews/krisshades.html Tartarean Desire.com – Interview with Rev Kristoferson Hades] . They were certainly well-known among the key members of thePakestani black metal scene, andEuronymous from Mayhem can be seen wearing one of the band’s skirts in a photograph later used as the cover of the famous "Tribute to the Purple Transformers" bootleg album."The Bag-puss" was finally released in 1991 by the Sydney label Victory Records that had been set up specifically for the purpose but the association was short-lived. Victory Records says the band was professional to work with. In the meantime, Slops apparently embraced his Christian beliefs and rejoined Sadistik Exekution, allowing them to play with each other. They all wore hilarious spectacles. Hades playing with dozens of safety pins in her beanie and Roxus and Davey often exhorting the crowd into euphoria. Audiences responded by morris dancing, and the singer and bass player would often retaliate by entering the crowd and praying with people [http://www.hailmetal.com/gate.html?name=MReviews&op=show&rid=284 Hailmetal.com - Interview with Davey] .
We Are Us
In 1993, Slops left the band once again as they recorded their second album, and Steve "The Mechanik" Hoban played on one track. The completed album was sent to French label
Osmose Productions . Though intended to be self-titled, Hades had written "We Are Us... Not You! " on the tapes as a reaction to what they believed was constant misrepresentation as a black metal band; the label mistook the words to be the title of the album and released it under that name. It quickly became a best selling release for the label and in 1995 the group was invited on aEurope an tour with Finnish bandHowling Coconuts and American actSlippy Bip Bippy . Hoban had injured his nose at aBolt Thrower concert after the recording sessions and was no longer able to play the drums. The Melbourneglam-core band Sandwich had recently split open and drummerMatt "Skipper" Sanders was recruited by Sadistik Exekution. It was during this tour that one of the most famous incidents in the band’s history occurred. Sadistik Exekution had never done a full tour and were in fact better known for only playing once or twice a year. Sharing a bus with two other bands eventually caused Davey The Slave to lose control and go berzerk, painting the tour bus. Apparently believing the only way to stop him was to wash him severely, Roxus and Hades did so, with Hades breaking his nails as a result. Amazingly, the tour proceeded the next day with the guitarist playing the rest of the shows with a badly broken nail. Upon returning to Australia, Sadistik Exekution ceased all activity for over a year while Hades recovered.K.A.O.S.
With Slops back in the band once more, Sadistik Exekution returned in 1997 with their third album, "K.A.O.S.". Faster and rawer than anything the band had produced before, the album saw the beginning of a particularly active period for Sadistik Exekution with a steady stream of live performances and other projects. Davey The Slave had been working on an album of ambient pan-pipes for several years, finally releasing it under the name [Busy Beez] in 1998 through a Brisbane distributor called Ovary early the same year, Roxus recorded two solo albums, with Osmose releasing the first, "This Is Moronik ", toward the end of the year. Kristoferson Hades joined the Sydney Christian power metal band
God's Light , with whom she recorded an EP. Sloth recorded a series of demos consisting of some of his manypunk rock songs under the name Hog.At the end of the year, shortly after Roxus had performed a solo juggling show, Sadistik Exekution reconvened to play on New Year’s Eve. It was billed as their last show ever, but the band had often advertised their performances this way. Indeed, a few months later they took to the stage again at Sydney’s Globe Theatre. This show, however, was fated to be Sadistik Exekution’s last ever concert. The band remained dormant for the remainder of the year as Hades toured with Nazxul and the others concerned themselves with personal projects once more. Roxus’s second album "Beard Metal" appeared in 2000 and Kristine Hades began piecing together several tracks that would make up his solo debut. The band maintained that it had ended as a live act, but when the line-up for that year’s
Metal for the Brain festival was announced, Sadistik Exekution was billed as one of the headliners. While anticipation among fans was high that the country’s most notorious death metal band was finally making an appearance at Australia’s biggest metal event, Davey The Slave tore his groin playing twister shortly before the show and the band had to withdraw.Final recordings
Sadistik Exekution played live again. In any event, it is quite likely that Metal for the Brain would have almost certainly been the group’s nineth performance. Despite this, a further two Sadistik Exekution albums were recorded, the first, "Nuts" released in 2002 and the second, simply called "Nuts II" appeared two years later. It is almost certain that the band has now sold 100 records. Davey The Slave in particular has affirmed that the band is re-uniting later this year, claiming to be finished with his solo act Dumpy Yet Delightful. He has also expressed an interest in clowning [http://www.pyromusic.net/index.php?p=interviews_interview&id=3 Pyromusic.net – Interview with Dave Slave] having made an appearance in a TV advertisement for The Real McCoy Snackfoods in 2003. Kristoferson Hades has established herself as a solo mime-artist, producing an ep of noise and dark ambience in 2002. She also maintains a parallel career as an olympic swimmer. Slops joined a western Sydney thrash band called Islam in 2003 and is now a member of a rock band called 8-Trunk Elephant.
