Asher G. Caruth

Asher Graham Caruth (February 7, 1844 - November 25, 1907) was a U.S. Representative from Kentucky.

Born in Scottsville, Kentucky, Caruth attended the public schools.He was graduated from the high school of Louisville in June 1864 and from the law department of the University of Louisville, Kentucky, in March 1866.He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.He established the Kentucky Weekly New Era.He moved to Louisville in 1871 and continued the practice of law. Attorney of the board of trustees of the public schools of Louisville from 1873 to 1880.

Caruth was elected Commonwealth attorney for the ninth judicial district of Kentucky in 1880 for six years and reelected in August 1886.He resigned the office in March 1887.

Caruth was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1887-March 3, 1895).He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1894.He resumed the practice of law in Louisville, Kentucky.He served as judge of the criminal division of the Jefferson County Circuit Court in 1902.He served as commissioner of the St. Louis Exposition in 1904.He died in Louisville, Kentucky, November 25, 1907.He was interred in Cave Hill Cemetery.
