Toplum Postası Newspaper was established in
1976 as a bi-sheet newsletter and is now one of the most popularFact|date=July 2007 and widely readFact|date=July 2007 weekly Turkish language newspapers inLondon . Thenewspaper , which is written in both Turkish and English, is aimed at London's large Turkish-speaking diaspora that is estimated to number around 300,000 people and includesCypriots , Turks andKurds .Toplum Postası was the first local newspaper designed to serve the Turkish speaking community in the
United Kingdom . Since its establishment, Toplum Postası continued to grow, and has recently enlarged its distribution area. The newspaper, which distributes around 27,000 newspapers per week, is now available throughout the City Centre and the Northwest of London, as well as to the West MidlandsFact|date=January 2008,Greater Manchester , andWest Yorkshire .Recently redesigned to give it a new image, the newspaper claims to target the young Turkish-speaking
diaspora , the English section claims to cater for a mostly English-speaking second and third generation population. The newspaper also gives coverage to pertinent issues for the Turkish-speaking communities in the UK, such as asylum and detention. The newspaper was nominated for the annual [eporting Asylum, the London Press Awards by theLondon Assembly in 2006, where it was short-listed along withThe Voice for the category of Reporting decision making, detention and deportation.References
