Sun Axelsson

Sun Axelsson, born 1935 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Is a Swedish poet, novelist, translator and journalist.

Life

Sun Axelsson, was the youngest daughter of the master of gardener Karl Edvin and Mignon Axelsson. She carried out her initial education in her home town: Gothenburg and then she continued at the University of Stockholm where she pursued a graduated degree in teaching and in journalism. As reporter she worked in the literary reviews BLM and Ord and Bild, and also in daily newspapers:: Expressen, Aftonbladet and Stockholms Tidningen.

In 1959 Axelsson came out with her fist collection of poetry: Goalless (Mållös), and then she expended an important part of her youth, voyaging repeatedly to Latin America, France and Greece.

In 1960 during an entire year she settled in Chile, having a relationship with the chilean poet Nicanor Parra. Since then, being in Santiago, she formed a closed friendship with Nobelprize winer, Pablo Neruda.

All that happens in that period of time and her personal experiences are reproduced in , "The cradle of fire", (Eldens vagga), "Stones in the mouth", Stenar I munnen (published under the pseudonym Jan Olov Hedlund). and "Honey wolves", (Honungs vargar).

Sun Axelsson have translated into Swedish a remarkable number of authors, among them:: Pablo Neruda, Federico García Lorca, Jorge Luis Borges, Harold Pinter, Jannis Ritsos, Octavio Paz, Sergio Badilla Castillo and Juan Cameron.

The trilogy which started with "A dreamed life" (Drömmen om ett liv, 1978) and finished with "The night season" (Nattens arstid, 1989) have been awarded with a wide range of prices, such as the Swedish Academy and as from several international cultural institutions.
