Alan Hinkes

Alan Hinkes OBE (born April 26, 1954) is an English mountaineer from Northallerton in North Yorkshire. Hinkes claims to be the first British mountaineer to have summited all 14 mountains with elevations greater than 8000 metres, the so-called Eight-thousanders, however this claim is disputed [http://www.mounteverest.net/story/AlanHinkesKangchenjunga-13or14May132005.shtml "Mounteverest.net"] ] .

He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Sunderland in 1999, and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of York in 2007.
