Kukkarahalli Kare (lake) spread over 580,000 square metres is located in the heart of Mysore city. It adjoins the University of Mysore, Kalamandir (and Rangyana), and the CFTRI campus (separated by the Hunsur Road). It once used to provide water supply to the city of Mysore evident by the water pumping stations. At one time sewage, excessive land grabbing almost led to the ruin of the lake, efforts are being made to preserve it both by the University of Mysore and the citizen forums of Mysore. It now houses a boating center. The lake shores are famous for its romantic patrons.

The lake used to feature a creaky iron watch tower(within the lake) about convert|100|ft|m from the shores. The only existing walkway around the lake had some rusting iron seats with iron grill and Bougainvillea providing shelter. The lakes fence was a hedgerow.

The University of Mysore added a walkway around the lake (3.6 km). The boating center houses equipment of the 3 Karnataka NCC naval unit. The iron seats and the tower are now concrete and steel, but the Bougainvillea still exists. The hedgerow is replaced with a concrete pillars and fence now.
