- USS Sioux (YT-19)
The first USS "Sioux" (YT-19) was an iron-hulled
tug in theUnited States Navy . "Sioux" was named by theU.S. Navy after theSioux ."Sioux," was built as "P. H. Wise" at
Philadelphia in1892 byNeafie & Levy and was purchased by the U.S. Navy on 25 March1898 .Spanish-American War Assignment
Acquired for the impending war with
Spain , thetug was assigned to theAtlantic station and operated at theNorfolk Navy Yard . In1901 , she moved north for duty at thePortsmouth Navy Yard inKittery, Maine ; and, in1907 , she was transferred to theBoston Navy Yard .Decommissioning
She was renamed "Nyack" on 20 February
1918 , and she was sold atBoston on 18 July1921 to William S. Nolan.References
