History and Profile

Mishcon de Reya, began with the firm Victor Mishcon & Co, set up in Brixton, South London, in 1937. This original firm was founded by Victor Mishcon who would go on to become a life peer as Baron Mishcon of Lambeth.

In 1988, Victor Mishcon & Co merged with part of Bartletts de Reya, and became Mishcon de Reya.

Mishcon de Reya announced the opening of its New York office in 2011.[1]

Notable Clients

The firm garnered particular attention when Anthony Julius represented Diana, Princess of Wales in her divorce. More recently, Charlotte Harris, a media lawyer at Mishcon de Reya, represented Energy Minister, Chris Huhne. Huhne is alleged to have asked others take on his penalty points to avoid a driving ban for speeding[2].

Expertise

Mishcon de Reya’s expertise covers five areas: analysing risk, protection of assets, managing wealth, resolving disputes and building businesses. They have a reputation in each area, and have won accolades for their work in family and employment law.[3]

Social Activism

In 2008, the firm launched the specialist ‘Pink Law’ Legal Advice Centre in conjunction with Queen Mary, University of London and two other city law firms. The project offers free and impartial legal advice on issues affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, such as employment discrimination, civil partnerships and cohabitation.[4]
