Pescara ,Abruzzo . In 1995, she started makingvideo art ; two years later she realized her first short film "Carnaval" (35mm, 13 min.). From 1997 to 2000, she worked on the contemporary art project "Volume", making documentaries on such artists asAlfredo Pirri ,Jannis Kounellis ,Bernhard Rudiger , Nunzio,Raimund Kummer ,Gianni Dessi ,Sol LeWitt andMaurizio Savini . In 1998, she made "Fetus 4 Brings Death" (35mm, 25 min.), and in 2000 "n.3" (video, 7min.). Her short films and documentaries have been shown in various film festivals and art galleries.Feature films
In 2002, Colagrande wrote, directed and starred in her first feature "
Open My Heart " ("Aprimi il cuore") starring Natalie Cristiani. It premiered at that year’sVenice Film Festival , and went on toTribeca Film Festival 2003 and many other international film festivals, where it won various awards. The film was released in Italy byLucky Red and in the USA byStrand Releasing .In 2005, she directed her second feature "
Before It Had a Name " (also known as "Black Widow"), which she co-wrote and co-starred with her husbandWillem Dafoe . The movie premiered at the62nd Venice International Film Festival in 2005 and was later screened at theSan Sebastian Film Festival .Personal life
