Galway South (Dáil Éireann constituency)

Galway South is a former parliamentary constituency in Ireland, which was represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. Covering the northern part of County Galway, it existed from 1948–1961. It elected three Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to the Dáil, using the Single Transferable Vote method of proportional representation (PR-STV).

History

The constituency was created in 1948, under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1947, for the 1948 general election to Dáil Éireann. It was abolished under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1961, when it was partially replaced by the new constituency of Galway East.
