All private plates are yellow with black letters while all the commercial plates are black with white letters. Issued by the
Government of Sindh , they all carry the seal of the department of excise and taxation.Pre 1996
Private plates were of the form X-NNNN where 'X' represented an alphabet and 'N' represented a number. All cities issued their own, with the name of the respective city at the bottom of the plate.
Post 1996
After the letters were finished, a new form XXX-NNN was introduced where 'XXX' is a string of alphabets starting AAA and 'NNN' is a string of numbers starting 001, both following a logical order.
Although not officially, the alphabet string can be used to correspond to the year the car was first registered with the government of Sindh, e.g. a car with registration AAB-001 would have been first registered in 1996 while one with AFR-001 in 2004.
