Patriots Peace Memorial

Patriots Peace Memorial

Patriots Peace Memorial is a monument in eastern Louisville, Kentucky near the banks of the Ohio River. In 2000, County Judge-Executive Rebecca Jackson created a committee of veterans and family members of veterans to design and fund the erection of a memorial to fallen soldiers. Many people donated to the effort, including Humana co-founder David Jones, and the monument was dedicated on Veterans Day, 2002.

The monument includes an elevated, 4-sided structure with brick walls. Each time a new fallen soldier is inscribed, a brick is removed from the wall, and as of 2007 421 soldiers were listed. Veterans chosen had ties to the Louisville area, and died in the Vietnam War or more recently. New names are added each Memorial Day.

Although there is a flag etched into the sculpture, a true flag was not added until Memorial Day, 2006.
