- UKCDR
The United Kingdom Collaboration for a Digital Repository (UKCDR) was a software design project.
Aims
To
research anddefine functional requirements for a tool to supportstorage ,exchange and analysis of high-stakes assessment items. UKCDR set out to scope a tool suitable for use inUK further education andhigher education .Funding
UKCDR was funded by a grant from the
JISC applicable for the two year period from 1st June 2005 to 31st May 2007.* [http://www.jisc.ac.uk/whatwedo/programmes/programme_digital_repositories/project_ukcdr.aspx]Process
The UKCDR
project used amethodology designed to ensure maximumgeneralisability of outcomes acrossUK FE andHE . Theproject team usedUML as a starting point, gatheringuse cases to define rawrequirements .Use cases can be used to develop discretefunctional requirements which can be scrutinised viaactivity diagrams which allowsoftware developers to look at various different userinteractions with a proposed system. The product of these undertakings is often a series of test cases. Test cases are a useful way of determining objectively whether a system covers the desired functionality. UKCDR went through several drafts of test cases before a workingversion was arrived at. Thisversion * [http://www.ukcdr.manchester.ac.uk/docs/UKCDR%20Test%20Cases%20v3.pdf] was used to examine the functional coverage of a range of item banking solutions.Core processes
UKCDR's
requirements gathering was condensed into a series of core processes:* [http://www.ukcdr.manchester.ac.uk/docs/Core%20Processes%20Descriptors.pdf]Item development

The
project has produced a range ofdocuments includingUML andfunctional requirements information.* [http://www.ukcdr.manchester.ac.uk/dissemination/other/] Theproject has met with members of thetechnical andeducational communities tovalidate andrefine * [http://www.ukcdr.manchester.ac.uk/dissemination/outputs/] these prior to releasing a finalversion .* [http://www.ukcdr.manchester.ac.uk/docs/UKCDR%20Test%20Cases%20v4.pdf] UKCDR has produced an online tool for anyone looking for an item banking solution. Users can go to the UKCDRwebsite and click on 'Needs calculator' where users can select which of the UKCDRrequirements they feel are important to find out which of the solutions appraised by UKCDR offers abest fit .* [http://www.ukcdr.manchester.ac.uk/needs/]Project partners
