They first entered service in 2003 [ [http://www.iarnrodeireann.ie/about_us/our_fleet.asp Iarnrod Eireann] ] and are used on the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) system, which operates between Greystones and Malahide/Howth.Vehicles are numbered in the sequence 861X+851X+851Y+861Y. The most visible difference between the 8510s and the previous 8500 class is the passenger information system which is installed in the 8510s. They are capable of operating in multiple with any other DART classes and have done so on a regular basis, usually with an 8100 to form a six car set. The units are maintained at Fairview depot.
