Jaafar's first experience in motor racing in the form of karts at the age of six. A year later, the Malaysian won his first kart race at the "Morac-Asean Kart Festival" in his home country. Jaafar was given a special allowance to gain an international license to compete in Formula BMW Asia when he was 14. [Khairul, Arnaz M. Belgium . In 2006, the young karter moved into the single seater category in the form ofFormula Renault , Jaafar took part in the Asian series of the category. The Malaysian finished third in the championship, eighty–one points behind championPekka Saarinen .In 2007, Jafaar competed in Formula BMW Asia.
After Round 22, and following receipt of a post-race scrutineering report, Race Stewards issued a Decision to exclude the cars of Jazeman Jaafar (MAS/
CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) and Jack Lemvard (THA/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) for a technical infringement of the regulations. In view of the severity of the offence and the fact that the same team had contravened the technical regulations on an earlier occasion during the season, the decision also included the exclusion ofCIMB Team Qi-Meritus from the Formula BMW Asia Series 2007.fact|date=February 2008The decision put Malaysian teenager Jazeman 2nd in the drivers' classification at the end of the season, just one point behind Ali.

CIMB Team Qi-Meritus is pleased to announce that the appeals lodged with FASC against the decisions of the stewards at Zhuhai on 4 November, 2007 have now been determined in favour of the drivers and team.The decision means that Jazeman will be handed back the drivers’ title, making him not only the first Malaysian but also the youngest to win the Series.
