Irving Grundman

Irving Grundman is a former General manager of the Montreal Canadiens. He is also a former Montreal city councillor.

He is founder and president of Laurentian Lanes. The company owns bowling alleys in Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston.

Irving has three kids: Howard, Gary and Pamela

Hockey career

Irving Grundman served as GM of the Canadiens from 1978 to 1983. He became GM after Sam Pollock retired. He won 2 Stanley Cups in 1978 and 1979. He was responsible for drafting future NHL stars such as Guy Carbonneau and Chris Chelios. He was replaced as GM by Serge Savard in 1983.

Political career

After his hockey career ended he became a Montreal city councillor. In September 2004 he along with another Montreal city councillor René Dussault pleaded guilty to 1 count of municipal corruption. The scandal involved a bribe over the rezoning of a piece of land formerly occupied by a church in the Montreal borough of St-Laurent. The pair accepted $75,000 from an undercover Quebec provincial police officer in 2002. Grundman must serve 23 months in the community for his part in accepting a bribe to change a Montreal zoning bylaw. Grundman was also given a $50,000 fine.
