The 5th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 5th Iowa Infantry was organized at Burlington, Iowa and mustered into Federal forces on July 15, 1861.

The regiment was amalgamated with the 5th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry on August 8, 1864.

Total strength and casualties

The regiment suffered 9 officers and 108 enlistedmen who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 2 officers and 131 enlistedmen who died of disease, for a total of 250 fatalities.
