The Atlantic and Gulf Railroad and Steamboat Company was incorporated under Florida state law chapter 3802, approved June 4, 1887, to construct a railroad commencing at St. Lucie, in Brevard county, and running to Wahneta or Lakeland, in Polk county, in this State, by the most eligible route. The railroad was to begin construction within two years and complete the line within thee years.
