Volleyball at the 1996 Summer Olympics - Men's beach volleyball

These page shows the results of the inaugural Men's Beach Volleybal Tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. The first Olympic Beach Volleyball competition took place in Atlanta Beach from July 23 to July 28 in a 10.000-seat stadium. Twenty-four men's teams and sixteen women's teams competed for Olympic medals and over 107,000 spectators attended the event. Beach volleyball had a complete 'sell out' in tickets.

The competitors were selected through a detailed Olympic qualification process which saw the participation of a total of 587 men's and women's athletes from 46 countries. At the Olympics, a double elimination tournament was played for both men and women until a total of four teams qualify for the semifinals: the two finalist teams of the winners bracket and the two finalist teams of the elimination bracket. Semifinal winners played for the first and second places; semifinal losers played for third and fourth places.

The remaining two Men's and two Women's teams for the US were determined at the Olympic Beach Trials held in Baltimore, Maryland on June 4 to June 9, 1996. On June 29 in Marseille, there was a drawing of lots to determine the time table for the Men's and Women's Olympic Beach Tournaments.
