Canada competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States.

The best performance by a Canadian athlete was the gold medal won by Donovan Bailey in the men's 100 metres race. He ran a world record in the final, clocking 9.84 seconds. The previous record was set in July 1994 by American Leroy Burrell at 9.85 seconds.Many Canadians felt his victory restored the image of Canadian athletes.
