Lutz Hoffmann was born in
Weißenfels ,East Germany in 1959. He began gymnastics training at the age of five. Beginning in 1976, he trained with theSC Dynamo Berlin . His brotherUlf Hoffmann was likewise a successful gymnast. In their youth, they shared a boarding school room during their time with SC Synamo Berlin.Career
In 1979 Hoffmann became GDR master in floor gymnastics, and became the second in vault gymnastics. At the world championships in the same year he won fourth place with the team. He celebrated his largest success with the team when they won the silver medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in
Moscow . At those games, they also took seventh in the multi-fight and sixth in floor. At the 1981 European championship, they won the bronze medal in floor again.Later life and death
After his career with SC Dynamo Berlin, he went to DHfK. Later he became a coach at the sports club.
Hoffman became a teacher in
Bad Sachsa ,Germany , where he committed suicide in 1997.Fact|date=December 2007
