website=http://www.austinzoo.org/The Austin Zoo is a non-profit rescue zoo and animal sanctuary that was founded by Jim and Cindy Carroccio with the help of her family. It was started in 1990 as Good Day Ranch and opened to the public about a year and a half later. The name was changed in 1994 to Austin Zoo. In 2000, it became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. In 2008, Jim and Cindy Carroccio left the organization to pursue outside interests but continue to be the involved by way of long term lease of the property on which the zoo sits. It is hoped that the board of directors and staff continue to provide excellent care and compassion to both the animals it houses and the people that come to visit. The zoo is located in Southwest Travis County Austin, Texas. Housing over 300 animals belonging to over 100 species, the zoo received 200,000 visitors in 2006.

The zoo's mission is to "assist animals in need; through rescue, rehabilitation and education."
