Acting career made her one of the most popular and beautiful actress in South Korea, however. She made first debut in soap opera of MBC.

Her husband, Ji Sang-wook, seven years her senior, is a professor at Yonsei University. They married on October 18 2005. The couple have one daughter, born on March 3 2006; Shim became pregnant again in February 2007.
