Carlos Saura . It was his first significant commercial success. [ [http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/peppermint_frappe/ Peppermint Frappe - Movie Reviews, Trailers, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes ] ]Plot
The story centers around a man named Julian who becomes obsessed with the wife of an old friend (played by
Geraldine Chaplin ), believing her to be a mysterious drummer that he once fell in love with at a festival. He pursues her only to be rebuffed multiple times. Eventually, he is driven to murder her and her husband.Analysis
The film uses Julian's obsession with the blonde, English-speaking woman to illustrate Spain's suppressed fascination with the "foreign" West under the nationalist and isolationist regime of
Francisco Franco . Additionally, the character of Julian's secretary, also played by Chaplin, serves as an interesting example of how a passive feminine character can come to control a more assertive chauvanist by manipulating his desires. Luis Buñuel .References
