Patrick Donohoe (born
Nenagh ,County Tipperary , Ireland, 1820–August 16 ,1876 ) was an Irish recipient of theVictoria Cross , the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.Details
He was approximately 37 years old and a private in the
9th Queen's Royal Lancers ,British Army during theIndian rebellion of 1857 when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.On
September 28 ,1857 , at Bolandshahr, India, Private Donohoe went to the assistance of a lieutenant who was severely wounded, and with some other men he brought that officer to safety through a large body of the enemy's cavalry.Further information
He married Mary Anne Glasscott in Bombay, India. He died at
Ashborne ,Co Meath , on16 August 1876 .The medal
