Wilbur Hall (musician)

Wilbur Hall (musician)

Wilbur Hall, sometimes billed as Willie Hall, was a United States trombonist and entertainer.

Hall played trombone with some of the top big bands of the era, including those of Paul Whiteman, Henry Busse, and Jack Hylton. He recorded with such notables as Bix Beiderbecke and Hoagy Carmichael.

Hall doubled on violin, which he played quite well, but is best remembered for his humorous playing in vaudeville bits. The early color film "The King of Jazz" preserves a version of his violin and musical bicycle pump performances. He would later reprise the violin bit for television on the Ken Murray and Spike Jones shows in the 1950s and on The Gong Show in the 1970s.
