Hone made his debut for Ireland against
I Zingari in August 1875, and scored 54 in the Irish second innings. His career continued with three more games against I Zingari over the following three years before touringNorth America with Ireland in September 1879, playing twice against Philadelphia.He then spent four years out of the Ireland team, returning for a match against the MCC at Lord's in July 1883, scoring 61 in the first innings, his highest score for Ireland. He played three more times for Ireland, his last game coming against I Zingari in August 1884.
