Southeastern North Carolina is a region of North Carolina that is centered on the city of Wilmington and the surrounding area. It is also known as the Cape Fear Region, a name which is used by the Cape Fear Council of Governments.
Three counties form the core of the southeastern region of North Carolina. They are New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender. These three counties are also included in the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had an estimated population of 339,511 as of July 1, 2007.
