Robin Chapman

Robin Chapman

Robin Chapman is a British writer and actor, chiefly known for his television work.

Chapman was a member of Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop. Later he created a number of trail-blazing original series for Granada TV including "The Man in Room 17" (1965) and a sequel "The Fellows" (1967) both of which dealt with the cases of theoretical criminologists who solved crimes in the outside world while rarely (if ever) leaving their offices. An episode of "The Fellows" prompted another series, "Spindoe" in 1968, charting the attempts of a London gangster (just released from five years in prison) to recover his crime empire. In 1969 a further gangster series, "Big Breadwinner Hog" had a level of violence that proved enormously controversial at the time.

Later work includes the series "Villains" (1972), "Tales of the Unexpected" (1988), "Maigret" (1992) and "Dalziel and Pascoe" (1996).
