Past_members =Makora is an acoustic based folk/rock/pop quartet from Nottingham, England.
They play a brand of blending wide ranging influences into their own ensemble. The band’s live set adopts many guises, contrasting upbeat choruses with more reflexive moments, reeling through showcase instrumentals and exploiting different timbres. Since their formation, Makora have gigged extensively around and about, feeling equally at home playing intimate acoustic gigs as they do when in full force at larger venues.
Formation
With Adam and Johnny being friends from undergraduate Music, and Theo living with Adam, the three decided to form a band in the sunny days of summer 2006. Following and heavy night out drinking in Nottingham, the group recruit a fourth member, Jon, to play bass.
The name was suggested my Johnny's girlfriend who lives in Kenya and swahili nick name is Makora.Guitarist Johnny and drummer Adam loved the name, it translates as “little imp”.
Live Radio Session
On 5th December 2006, Makora guested at URN (University of Nottingham Radio) on the radio show 'Requiem' hosted by award winning DJ Phillipa Treverton-Jones. As part of the show they covered some girl band classics, of all things, putting a Makora style spin on Girls Aloud's 'Love Machine' and 'Wannabe' from the Spice Girls.
1st Demo
In February 2007, Makora begin recording their long-awaited first EP with producer Joe Timson (also a third year student, from Nottingham Trent University), while a couple of private recordings exist of Cry Mother, Vultures and Room Service.
Cello
Later in the month, Makora recruit cellist, and fellow third year music student Ruth Claydon, to play cello on new recordings of Cry, Mother and Vultures. She appears live at charity gig “BONER”, in aid of Osteoporosis 2000.
2nd Demo (Tunes EP)
On 8th April 2007, Makora finishes 2 new recordings of Room Service and Coats of Arms in Stoke, UK, to add to their privately recorded version of Cry, Mother.
