- Al-Hajjāj ibn Yūsuf ibn Matar
transl|ar|ALA|Al-Ḥajjāj ibn Yūsuf ibn Maṭar (786–833) was an Arab mathematician who made the first translation of Euclid's "Elements" from Greek into Arabic. He made a second, improved, more concise translation for al-Ma'mun. Around 829 he translated Ptolemy's "Almagest", which at that time had also been translated by Hunayn ibn Ishaq and transl|ar|ALA|Sahl al-Ṭabarī.
In the beginning of the 12th century Adelard of Bath translated transl|ar|ALA|al-Ḥajjāj's version of the "Elements" into Latin.
