History
On the 17th of March, 1917, the first recorded game of the Dorsey Emmetts took place in Caffrey's Meadow near Dorsey School, against Lislea. Their colours were green and gold which was a popular choice because of their patriotic associations. The war of independence in 1920 was to see a decline in the interest of Gaelic football in the Dorsey area and it was not until 1948 that the Emmetts were officially affiliated and again decided to wear the green and gold of the old team. Their first game was a challenge against neighboring club Cullyhanna on Easter Sunday which ended in a draw: 3-2 to 2-5. In the face of depression and mass emigration the Dorsey Emmetts managed to keep their Gaelic heritage alive until 1956 which brought their amalgamation with the Cullyhanna Kevin Barrys. In the year of the new millennium, Dorsey Emmetts reformed and affiliated, the new team has provided the ever increasing population of the Dorsey community, the opportunity to play and support Gaelic football.[1]
2009 Championship
Dorsey Emmetts lost out to Tullysaran in the 2009 Armagh Junior Championship 1st Round in Middletown on 31 July 2009.
Dorsey (who were beat by 22 points against tullysaran in this stage last year) lead 1-6 to 0-2 at half-time in strong winds and rain. But the second half went tullysarans way as they clawed their way back into the game. With minutes left Dorsey led by a point but a goal put tullysaran 2 points in the lead. Dorsey fought bravely and almost scored a goal in the last kick of the game, but got the point. Final score Dorsey Emmetts 1-8 Tullysaran 1-9.
Grounds
The club's grounds are the Rory McGee Park in Dorsey Village. The field was named after Rory McGee, who died in 2005 aged 26. Money to build the field was raised by the local community and the club. The first official game played was in January 2007 when the Dorsey Senior ladies team played Mullabrack ladies. It officially opened in April 2007.
