- George Herbert Walker IV
George Herbert Walker IV (born April 1969) is a Managing Director at
Lehman Brothers and is a second cousin to U.S. PresidentGeorge W. Bush . Walker began his career onWall Street when he joinedGoldman Sachs in the Merger Department in 1992 and six years later, in 1998, became of one of the firm's youngest partners ever. He held several senior positions at Goldman, including co-head of the firm's Wealth Management business, and head of Alternative Investment strategies. In May 2006, Walker announced that he was resigning from Goldman Sachs to become global head of rival Lehman Brothers' Investment Management division. George went to theUniversity of Pennsylvania where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and received a dual degree- a B.S. and a B.A. He also received his MBA fromWharton after completing the 5 year MBA program. He was a member of theSt. Anthony Hall fraternity. He was married briefly to Kate Jennings Grant , a Juliard trained actress , who portrays Diane Sawyer in Ron Howard's upcoming film "Nixon/Frost ". Walker's father,George Herbert Walker III , was U. S. ambassador toHungary . Walker's great-grandfather,George Herbert Walker I , was the founder of G. H. Walker & Co. Walker was raised inSt. Louis, Missouri and has a younger sister, Carter. Just before the collapse of Lehman Brothers inbankruptcy , executives at a subsidiary company,Neuberger Berman , sent e-mail memos suggesting, among other things, that the company's top people forgo multi-million dollar bonuses to "send a strong message to both employees and investors that management is not shirking accountability for recent performance." Walker dismissed the proposal, going so far as to actually apologize to other members of the Lehman Brothers executive committee for the idea of bonus reduction having been suggested. He wrote, "Sorry team. I am not sure what's in the water at Neuberger Berman. I'm embarrassed and I apologize."
