Brighton & Hove City Council election, 2007

Brighton & Hove City Council election, 2007

Elections to Brighton and Hove City Council on the south coast of England were held on 3 May, 2007. The whole council (a unitary authority) was up for election.

The Conservative Party replaced the Labour Party as the major party on the council. However, the council remained under "no overall control" (i.e., no absolute majority for any party): the Conservatives won 26 out of the 54 seats in the city. This result was to some extent in line with the general pattern of results throughout England that day, with Conservatives gaining seats at the expense of Labour and the Liberal Democrats. An exception was the Green Party which doubled its representation.

Some high-profile local Labour candidates failed to get elected/re-elected:
* Simon Burgess (the council leader immediately before the election)
* Ken Bodfish (Burgess's predecessor as council leader)
* Sue John (the deputy leader of the council immediately before the election)
