United States Senate election in Iowa, 2008

The Iowa United States Senate election in 2008 will be held on November 4, 2008 and will determine who will hold Iowa's Class 2 seat in the United States Senate for the next six years.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Tom Harkin has announced he will seek re-election to the United States Senate in 2008. Democrats did extremely well in the 2006 midterm elections in Iowa, retaining the Governor's seat, picking up two House seats, and achieving a majority in both houses of the Iowa General Assembly. Republican Congressmen Tom Latham and Steve King declined to run. George Eichhorn, Steve Rathje, and Christopher Reed filed for the Republican nomination; Reed narrowly won the June 3 primary.
