Daniel Morcombe

Daniel Morcombe

Daniel Morcombe (born 19 December 1989) was a 13-year-old Australian boy who was the victim of a presumed abduction in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, on 7 December 2003. Morcombe has yet to be found despite regular media coverage about his disappearance since 2003.

Abduction

It is believed that Daniel Morcombe was abducted from an unofficial bus stop at the Kiel Mountain Road overpass in the Palmwoods district of the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, December 7, 2003.

Daniel was meant to catch the 1:30 pm bus to the Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre for a haircut and to buy Christmas presents for his family and relatives but he failed to arrive.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing him at approximately 2:10 pm on the Nambour-Connection Road under the Kiel Mountain Road overpass.

A car similar to a Toyota Corolla, an early 1980s model, blue with yellow NSW plates, is believed to have been used by the abductor(s). It has not been ascertained that yellow New South Wales number plates were fitted to the suspect's vehicle, according to the Queensland Police Service.

The Morcombe case is one of the most extensively investigated crimes in Queensland's criminal history.

ocial effects

Daniel's disappearance was widely discussed in the Australian media and brought the issue of child safety to public attention.

The Morcombe family has started a foundation, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, and has put all its resources into trying to find out what happened to Daniel. The foundation is committed to educating children about personal safety and to raising awareness throughout Australia of the dangers of predatory criminals.
