Vernon Grant (Kellogg's)

Vernon Grant was a book and magazine and illustrator best known as the creator of the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal characters Snap, Crackle and Pop.

Born in Nebraska in 1902, Grant moved with his family to California when he was a teenager. He studied at the University of Southern California and later at the Art Institute of Chicago. His Santa Claus portrait decorated a 1932 cover of "Ladies Home Journal". A year later, a radio commercial for Kellogg's Rice Krispies, gave him the inspiration to create the gnome-like characters of Snap, Crackle and Pop. He moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina for a couple years.

Grant designed 187 magazine covers from the 1930s to the 1950's, and he also illustrated children's books. He died in July 1990 at the age of 88.
