J.L. Brandeis & Sons was a chain of
department stores located in theOmaha, Nebraska area started by Jonas L. Brandeis in 1881. It was purchased byYounkers for $35 million in 1987, and the stores were converted to the Younkers name.Brandeis' downtown Omaha flagship store, built in 1906 and expanded in 1917, contained the first
escalator in theMidwestern United States . Brandeis also developed two major malls in the Omaha area,Crossroads Mall andSouthroads Mall .Former Locations
