Originally WFSO which signed on for the first time in 1988 then becoming WBUK "Oldies 107.5 The Big Buck" in 1991. The oldies format moved to 106.3 in Ottawa, Ohio, in 2002 (originally WPNM) with the new active rock format and the WZRX calls in place also since 2002. As such, the "X" branding is also used by Dayton's active rock station WXEG licensed to Beavercreek, Ohio.

WZRX along with four other Clear Channel Lima radio stations were initially sold to Florida based GoodRadio.TV LLC in May 2007, but the deal soon collapsed prior to FCC approval. The most recent proposed deal was to banker American Securities under the new name "Frequency Licensing Partners LLC", but it has yet to be completed or approved.

The call letters WZRX are also shared with an AM station at 1590 kHz in Jackson, Mississippi.
