Motherland (Latvia)

Motherland (Latvian: Dzimtene) is a left populist coalition of political parties in Latvia, founded in 2004. Chairman — Viktors Kalnbērzs, most famous person — Juris Žuravļovs. Founding members: Social Democratic Welfare Party and "For Freedom, Social Justice and Equal Rights" (Russian short form "ЗаСССР", meaning "ForUSSR"). Since 2005 Motherland is represented in Riga City Council, being elected in a coalition with Socialist Party of Latvia. In the last parliamentary elections Motherland got 2,08% (threshold 5%) and remained out of Saeima. The coalition was dissolved in 2008.[1]
