Some Say the Devil is Dead

Some Say the Devil is Dead

Some Say the Devil is Dead (sometimes spelled 'divil') is a popular Irish folk song which pokes fun at the British Army, as evident in the chorus:

Some Say the Divil is dead,The Divil is dead,The Divil is dead,Some Say the Divil is deadand buried in Killarney.More say he rose again,More say he rose again,More say he rose againand joined the British Army.

The song also makes reference to John of Patmos's Number of the Beast:

My man is six foot tall, six foot tall, six foot tall,My man is six foot tall he likes his sugar candy.Goes to bed at six o’clock, goes to bed at six o’clock, goes to bed at six o’clockHe’s lazy, fat and dandy.

It has been performed by numerous contemporary bands such as Cruachan and the Wolfe Tones.
