London Buses route 340 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Arriva Shires & Essex.

History

Route 340 was formed as part of the Harrow Buses scheme of 1987 from the withdrawn section of route 140 (between Harrow Weald Garage and Edgware) on 14 November 1987, running between Edgware and Harrow on the Hill with a Monday to Friday peak extension to South Harrow. The route was run from Harrow Weald Garage by Harrow Buses using Metrobuses.

On 19 January 1991 the contract passed to London Country North West (LCNW) from Garston Garage using Leyland Olympians. LCNW was subsequently sold to Luton & District, which was then sold to British Bus, which was then bought out by the Cowie Group (now rebranded Arriva). The peak extension to South Harrow was withdrawn on 3 July 1993.

A new contract on fellow London Buses route 142 saw new red low floor buses being ordered for both routes, even though the contract for route 340 was near expiration. The contract was renewed with Arriva on 4 January 2003.
