2000s

* The 2008 Indian floods are currently affecting Kosi Basin in Bihar and adjoining Nepal,Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
* The 2007 Africa Floods is reported to be one of the largest floods in recorded history in the continent of Africa with 14 countries affected.
* The Summer 2007 United Kingdom floods occurred across many parts of Britain, with the worst affected areas being Yorkshire including Sheffield and Hull in June, and large areas of the Midlands, most significantly Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire in July.
* The 2007 Hunter Floods that inundated large areas of the City of Maitland and the City of Newcastle, Australia in June 2007, claimed 11 lives and forced the evacuation of 4,000 people in Central Maitland.

* The Boscastle flood, 2004 on the 16 August in Cornwall (Great Britain) caused much damage to buildings in the Valency river valley. Further flooding took place in surrounding valleys, and in the town of Camelford.

1980s

* In 1983 the Pacific Northwest saw one of their worst winter floods. And the some of the Northwest states saw their wettest winter yet. The damage was estimated at 1.1 billion dollars.
* In 1982 the river Jucar (Valencia, Spain) broke Tous's reservoir provoking an avalanche of 16.000 m3/s and more than 30 dead men. The flood was called "La pantanada".

1960s

*In 1962, a flood killed 318 people and damaged manly Hamburg, Germany.
*In 1966, the flood of the Arno River killed dozens of people and damaged or destroyed millions of masterpieces of art and rare books in Florence, Italy.
* In 1965 Hurricane Betsy flooded large areas of New Orleans (USA) for up to 10 days, drowning around 40 people.

1950s

* In 1957, storm surge flooding from Hurricane Audrey killed about 400 people in southwest Louisiana.
* The Hunter Valley floods of 1955 in New South Wales (Australia) destroyed over 100 homes and caused 45,000 to be evacuated.

* The North Sea Flood of 1953 caused over 2,000 deaths in the Dutch province of Zeeland and the United Kingdom and led to the construction of the Delta Works and the Thames Barrier.

* The Lynmouth (UK) flood of 1952 killed only 34 people, however it was very destructive and destroyed over 80 buildings.

* There was serious flooding in much of England in March 1947, as heavy rain on impermeable frozen ground coincided with the thaw after a severe winter.
* 1940 saw severe floods in Queensland, Australia.
* The 1931 Huang He flood caused between 800,000 and 4,000,000 deaths in China, one of a series of disastrous floods on the Huang He.
* The Great Mississippi Flood in 1927 was one of the most destructive floods in United States history.
*The Hatfield Flood of San Diego, United States, of 1916 destroyed the Sweetwater and Lower Otay Dams, and caused 22 deaths and $4.5 million in damages.
* The 1916 Clermont .
* The Great Dayton Flood of 1913 killed 360 people and destroyed 20,000 homes in the United States. It also damaged historic photographic plates belonging to Wilbur and Orville Wright. It caused the end canal transportation in Ohio.

Mozambique

Canada

* One of Canada's most devastating floods occurred in southern Alberta in June 2005. The flooding affected many major metropolitan areas including Calgary. 4 deaths resulted from the three-week flood.

* The Great Chilean Earthquake was followed by the Riñihuazo flooding. The settlements of Riñihue, Los Lagos, Antilhue, Pishuinco and Valdivia were affected in that order.

France

* One of France's worst floods of the 20th century occurred in 1910. The end of 1909 and early 1910 saw a period of heavy rain and snow fall over a period of 3 months. The level of the Seine began to rise rapidly from January 18th to 20th, rising to a maximum of 8.62 meters on the 28th. Some 4 billion cubic meters of river water, contaminated with river sediment and municipal sewage, flooded over 5 square kilometers of Paris. There were over 150,000 human causalities and over 20,000 buildings flooded. Paris has since implemented a system of 4 flood reservoirs which can contain a rise of several centimeters in the river's level, but a repeat of the 1910 flood would not only overwhelm the system, the results would be more catastrophic in the 21st century because of the increase in population over the same area and the increase in automotive and underground municipal transportation systems that, unlike the carts and horse-drawn carriages that were pre-dominant in 1910, would be rendered completely inoperative in the case of a major flood.
