K-Paz de la Sierra is a Duranguense band that was formed in the United States by Mexican natives. Some of their hits include "Mi Credo", "Volveré", "Con Olor A Hierba", "Pero Te Vas A Arrepentir", "Procuro Olvidarte" (first Hernaldo Zúñiga's international hit), "Y Aquí Estoy", and many others. In January the group shot a video for the song, "Querido Amigo", in Chicago which they dedicated to their former leader Sergio Gómez.

Splitting Up

On May 28, 2007 seven long-time members of the group left because of disputes with former lead singer Sergio Gomez, they then formed a new group named AK-7. [http://www.periodicodigital.com.mx/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=16812] with stood for "Antes K-Paz" and the number seven for the seven member that left. They released their first album soon after, El Avion de Las Tres, and are currently on tour.What many people do not know, perhaps because they haven't followed K-Paz De La Sierra since their beginning, is that before this splitting up, K-Paz De La Sierra had split also in October of 2004 where four of their original members Jair Loredo, who is back with K-Paz, Oscar Cepeda, Simon Valtierrez (sang that Gavilan song), and Jose Luis Corral formed La Autoridad De La Sierra. Starting out with their single "Yo Me Quede Sin Nada", which is somewhat symbolic because of several disputes that left them to start once again from scratch. AK-7 just released a new album, "Renanciendo".

Death of Sergio Gómez

On December 2, 2007, lead singer Jonathan Pichardo was kidnapped with two businessmen as he was leaving a dance hall in Morelia, Michoacán. The two businessmen were released, but Gómez was found dead on December 3. He was born in 1973.Gomez was warned not to perform in Michoacan according to friend Jose Manuel Zamacona.On the morning of December 3, 2007, the body of singer Sergio Gómez was found strewn along the side of a highway. He had been strangled and his body showed signs of torture and severe bruising on the thorax and abdomen as well as cigarette burns on the legs. On December 6, 2007 Gómez, as well as another murdered Mexican musician, Valentín Elizalde, were nominated posthumously for the Grammy Awards. Juárez ] ] : Miguel Galindo, Juan Gomez (Sergio's brother) and Luis Guadarrama.According to Juan K-Paz will release a new CD in November.Sources say Humberto Duran and Miguel Galindo have been fighting over who will sing more and Juan Gomez is going to kick them out of the group. Also reports of Sergio Gomez's ghost have been caught on camera during concerts according to Furia magazine.
