Farook College, Calicut

Farook College is a center of higher education in Kozhikode, a district of Kerala, India. Its creation marked a breakthrough in the renaissance of Kerala Muslims.

History

The beginning

Started in 1948 ,it was the first First Grade College in that area, originally affiliated to the University of Madras. On the reorganization of States, it came under the jurisdiction of theUniversity of Kerala in 1957 and subsequently under the University of Calicut 1968.

Time line

Commencing its academic activities in 1948 with 32 students and 5teachers and two Undergraduate courses, it has grown steadily over the past52 years and in 2001 it had an enrollment of 2027 (including Pre-degree)students taught by 149 teachers. Fifteen Undergraduate and Eleven PostGraduate Courses are offered by the College and of the total of 1621students in these courses, 977 are women and 644 are men.The college started with the establishment of Rouzathul Uloom by Moulavi Abu Sabah. That first establishment is currently known as Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College and is now part of the sprawling campus.

Al-Farook Residential School was established by the Farook College Managing Committee in June 1991 in accordance with the Bye-laws of the Farook College Managing Committee. The school is functioning according to the CBSE syllabus, the medium of instruction being English. The teaching scheme also provides for the teaching of Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic etc. from initial stages besides other subjects. Provision is made for extracurricular activities, crafts and games as provided for in the CBSE sylabbus.

H Kalro, Former Director, IIM - K. It established within the Farook College Campus in an exclusive building designed aesthetically to provide a studious atmosphere to the students. FIMS is established with an objective for achieving excellence in management education nationally and internationally
