Athletics at the 1956 Summer Olympics - Men's javelin throw

These are the official results of the Men's Javelin Throw event at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. The qualifying stage and the final both were held on the third day of the track and field competition, on Monday November 26, 1956.

USA's Cyrus Young, four years earlier winner at the 1952 Summer Olympics, finished in eleventh place, and the first five all improved on his record. Egil Danielsen from Norway, with a world record throw of 85.71 metres was 5.73 metres in front of Polands Janusz Sidło, and established a new Olympic record by 11.93 metres. This and the Triple Jump event were the only men's field event where the gold medals not won by contestants from the United States.
