The Chibb or Chibh Rajput or Chib Rajas (Hindi: चिब, Urdu: چب) are a clan of Punjab in India and Pakistan. Chibb or Chibh are found among Hindus as well as Muslims. Chibb tribes reside in Jhelum, Kharian, Sarai Alamgir, Bhimber, Sargodha and Azad Kashmir.
A section of Chibs were converted to Islam during the reign of Aurengzeb. The first of the tribe to become a Muslim was Sur Sadi, who died a violent death during Aurangzeb's reign. He is still venerated as a martyr, and the Muslim Chib offer the scalp locks of their male children at his tomb, till which ceremony the child is not considered a true Chibh, nor is his mother allowed to eat meat[1]}}
Baba Shadi Shaheed (Raja Chib chand) (real name Raja Shadab Khan) was a Sufi Saint. Shaheed is thought to be the first Chib Rajput convert to Islam during the reign of Ibrahim Lodi. He was a famed wise man who was requested to treat the ailing emperor in Delhi. This ultimately resulted in his death as he was ordered to marry the emperor's daughter but refused to stay in Delhi. His tribe, the Chib Rajputs of Kashmir and Punjab come to his shrine in Jandi Chontra in Bhimber to pay their respects and ritualistically celebrate the births of their children. In the last few decades, the popularity of the shrine has grown among non-tribe members due to the belief that visiting the shrine will help childless couples bear children.
Raja Dharam Chand was the seventh Raja of the Chib Chand line. He converted to Islam and was named as Raja Shadab Khan of Bhimber. He was killed by Ibrahim Lodi and his tomb still exists on the hills of Bhimber by the name of Baba Shadi Shaheed.
The Known villages of Chibb rajputs are Bharing, Panjari, Manglura, lahri etc. Bharing is the Biggest village of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the biggest community of Chibb Rajputs.
