1939 inOahu ,Hawai'i ) is anethnic studies historian. His work helps dispel stereotypes ofAsian Americans such as themodel minority myth. He strives "to write a more inclusive and hence more accurate history of Asian Americans, Chicanos, Native Americans as well as certain European immigrant groups like the Irish and Jews."He received his Ph.D in American history in 1967 from and served as a professor of Ethnic Studies at the

Takaki was inspired to fight for equality for the Asian American community from his personal experiences.
