Korean Rangers Foundation

Ranger is commonly defined as a keeper, guardian, or soldier who ranges over a region to protect the area or enforce the law. In similar words, there are warden, park rangers, forest rangers and those words may have slightly different commitments. A Park Ranger, a kind of ranger, is a person in the charge of protecting and preserving protected areas, national parks, historic heritages as well as other natural and cultural resources. In South Korea, the person who offers interpretive programs on natural and cultural resources, enforces law, leads visitor satisfaction for conserving the protected areas as well as satisfying visitors around all kinds of the protected areas including national parks, preserved areas, reserves, historic heritages may be called as RANGER.

The person who make an effort to conserve the protected areas including National Parks in private sector as well as third sector, strictly defining, not ranger, however shall be accepted as a member of the KRF.

History

The Korean Rangers Foundation was founded in 2005 with setting up to draw together National Park Rangers from professionalism across South Korea, to develop a national identity as Korean Rangers and to provide support for new professionals. Today, KRF continues to do this - although it has grown and developed to embrace the rapid growth of both in the number of Rangers and Ranger Services that are in operation today. There are now approximately 1,000 Rangers working only for the Public Sector.

The Korean Rangers Foundation is a membership foundation. Over 15% of National Park Rangers in South Korea are members of KRF and most of members are from all types of employment back ground from [http://www.knps.or.kr Korea National Park Service] (KNPS). The Korean Rangers Foundation welcomes members from associated professions such as Forest Service (FS). The Korean Rangers Foundation represents Rangers from National Parks as well as Associated Agencies and aims to represent the views of these members in what ever way they can.

Purpose

The Korean Rangers Foundation targets at sharing information, knowledge, and techniques from best-practices on sites, the protected areas, as well as to enhance the stewardship and their own benefits among all national park employees as well as partners.
